ABOUT RECLAIM
RECLAIM is a newly established NGO that works to amplify the voices of European civil society in their struggle to promote democratic, just and inclusive societies at home and abroad. Our goals are to counter democratic backsliding and ensure that European civil society, in all its diversity, can continue to work unhindered. RECLAIM is committed to acting against unjustified restrictions affecting European human rights, democracy and humanitarian groups and their counterparts in the Global South. We want to ensure an operating environment in Europe where civil society can continue to thrive. Working in partnerships is critical to us. In order to do this, RECLAIM brings together the voices and concerns of different civic sectors and support their meaningful engagement with EU institutions.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
RECLAIM is seeking an intern to support our work on shrinking space for civil society.
In this role, you will participate fully in the activities of RECLAIM and assist its Director in:

Keeping track of legislative, political and donor-related developments impacting European NGOs ability to operate unhindered

Formulating and distributing policy updates and advocacy materials about the situation of civil society in EU Member States and selected third countries (where relevant) amongst EU legislators and MS and Commission officials

Building strong working relationships with key officials, politicians and journalists based in Brussels.

Attending external meetings and reporting back to RECLAIM's Director and working partners in other NGOs.

Maintaining our website (upcoming)

Building mutually beneficial alliances with relevant INGOs, local NGOs and think-tanks.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
-
You will be line managed by RECLAIM’s Director in Brussels.
-
You will be coordinating and working closely with European human rights groups and international INGOs.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate is a quick and strategic thinker, independent and a self-starter fitting more or all of the below:
-
A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Political Sciences, Journalism, Law, Economics).

Pro-EU with a proven passion for the EU, its processes, policies, politics and working culture.

Proven concern with human rights and rule of law backsliding, including in the EU.
-
Interest in bringing policy change on issues related to human rights, sound political judgement and good diplomatic skills.

Strong communication skills in English, C2 or equivalent (knowledge of Hungarian, Polish, Italian will be considered an asset).

Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesise and to tailor messaging to different target audiences.

An open mind and a desire to learn.
You also must be:

Legally eligible to work in Belgium and
-
not currently enrolled in formal education (Master’s degree or other).
CONDITIONS AND APPLICATION PROCESS:
Contract’s terms and benefits:

4 months -CIP contract with an allowance in keeping with Commission blue-book traineeships (1.200€) and the possibility for an extension of the collaboration subject to available funding and performance.
